Considering a set of Goggles.......few questions

only $699 ouch. maybe there is a work around for some more economical ones?
i have used many devices with the Mavic controller and the only one I have come to trust is an Ipad.(the only one that doesnt crash with the go4 app)

Yep, 699 and the picture quality is worse than the goggles at half the cost of the moverios. I wouldn't recommend them. I've never tried it, but some people use a cheap set of vr goggles paired with litchi vr mode. You can do that for under 50 bucks.

Totally new to goggles but I know I do not want big box goggles. Can any goggles with a usb be connected to the controller by cable, like a phone or tablet?

You can connect the DJI Goggles or the Epson Moverio BT-300 glasses. For other goggles/glasses, you'll need to connect them to the HDMI output on a mobile device. The Nvidia Shield K1 is one of the most common mobile devices used for that setup.
