Controller not charging

Can anyone offer any advise about controller not charging? It worked perfectly fine the first time but now will not connect to charger, how can I find out if the issues is the controller or the charging block- I have read online that you can also charge the controller with other charging blocks, such as a portable charger? if anyone can advise if this is the case I would appreciate any help before I start paying for new controllers or batteries.

It's just a normal USB charging input but take care with the cable ideally use the supplied one due to the shape of the surrounding plastic some are too bulky to seat fully.
Did you just get it new? This isn't a common fault from new but if it has been used a while the connector might have broke loose inside or something.
I have the (similar design) Pro2 now and being aware it's a little fragile I use a magnetic USB connector to minimise stress on the port.

I also use magnetic USB cables, I use them on all my devices.
The main reason I use them is because you never have to unplug the little adaptor in the USB port negating wear on the port & also if the cable gets snagged it simply pops off without damaging the port.
You could see if a phone charger to see if it is the charging block at fault.

I know this is going to sound silly, but as I did it once with my Smart Controller and panicked.. I already had a full charge so my charge lights didn't light up...stupid I know...but just checking
