Yes, you can use it with other Mavic 2 models.

Thanks, I was hoping it could be used with a cheaper "crash" drone. I guess it's just too complicated for DJI.

I think it's just outside of their wheelhouse. Their efforts could likely be spent doing more productive things (like building new drone models).
