damaged gimbal or cameras can only be fixed by DJI

While you can buy a replacement for around $150, part sellers don't tell you that it will not pair with your drone.
Only DJI can fix this and it will cost you more than $400. I just found out about this from a repair shop.
So be careful when buying crashed or damaged drones from eBay or Craigslist, thinking you can fix it yourself.

Not true in my case... I just fixed my Mavic Pro (granted it is not a Mavic Air, but you did mention DJI drone...) by buying a new gimbal with camera and all. Worked right away. I wonder what happened with your repair and what DJI said.
