Is there any reason for me to keep the files on my iPad created by DJI FLY? It's under documents a data in iPad storage. Things like flight logs, etc.

In my opinion yes there are reasons for keeping flight logs BUT not on the phone etc., I copy them to an external hard drive.
I have not looked at other files in the app but I do not actively delete them unless I need to clear out space and then I would target cached images etc. first.

If you'd like to keep a copy of your logs before you delete them, install the Airdata app, manually sync all your current flights, then turn on auto-sync for future flights.

The free Airdata subscription will keep up to 100 flights, and there are several tiers of paid plans that keep even more. But two of the best parts of airdata is the automatic in-depth flight analysis, and tracking the health of your batteries over time.

Must I use Airdata or iTunes? Can I simply copy the files via Windows Explorer (file manager)?
Sorry, I know nothing about iDevices... so, why don't you just plug it up to your Windows computer and try it. If you can see the folders on your iPad you'll be able to copy the files over. Airdata offers so much more than simply archiving files though...

I have a windows 10 computer and use an Android tablet with my MP1. I will try that. What files should I look for?

Since I use airdata I don't know offhand where the files are located, never bothered to look for them... but they should be easy to find. I'll go get my two flight devices (Galaxy S7 phone and Android tablet) check it out and get back to you asap. BTW, these are txt files but encrypted, so looking at the contents you'll only see a bunch of gibberish.

p.s. Sorry for my reference to iDevices, since you mentioned iTunes I guess I just assumed you were the OP with an iPad.

Try this:
txt files - DJI > dji.go.v4 > FlightRecord
dat files - DJI > dji.go.v4 > FlightRecord > MCDatFlightRecords

No promises, best I could come up with on short notice lol.

Airdata decrypts these files and gives you a metric ton of useful info in an orderly and easy-to-use format.

I was just wondering why I need to even have the files.

I keep them as a form of diary of my flying but it could perhaps form a record for checking battery performance / life etc.
It does allow you to look up when and where you flew and that is sometimes handy when looking for a video.

I use the free version of Airdata meaning I do delete the files on it and only keep up to 20 flights. I track my battery performance and other details but after 500 flights I don't need to have the first flight recorded to keep track of the trends.

You don't need to... I especially don't see the need to copy them to a computer, they're encrypted - so without specialized software you can't read the contents anyway.

I'm in no way affiliated with AirData, and not trying to 'push' it on anyone... but the reasons I use it:
  • Automatic upload - I don't have to spend time with copying/deciphering files
  • Immediate in-depth flight analysis - as soon as the quad is powered down the log is uploaded
  • Keeping track of battery health over time (MOST important use for me)
  • If you crash or lose your quad - the track, last lat/long coordinates, and probably the reason for the crash is right there on the website
  • If you need crash or 'flyaway' analysis by the experts here, the data they need is there
  • I won't go into the other advantages, there are many

Uuuum pre Fly app version 1.2..... both the DAT and txt logfiles can be read by CsvView, I think 'unbreakable' encryption started in 1.2.something, I recollect I tried a couple of 1.2 versions or one version twice and removed both because I want readable logs

I tried deleting one the short flight flight log and it reduced the totals shown in the Fly app. Anybody else have the same result when deleting flight logs from the Fly app?

Yes, the apps. Go, Go4 and FLy, use stored logs to generate those totals.

Hence the specialized software of which I spoke.

I know nothing about the Fly app... and from what I've read, don't want to - one of the reasons I recently bought a used MPP instead of one of the newer Mavics that use Fly

Ahh, fair enough.
Personally, I would view CsvView as specialised as Microsoft Works or Office is for viewing a spreadsheet, or VLC for watching a video.
