DJI app on phone with no data

My phone was due for an upgrade so I ordered a new phone last night. My current phone doesn't have any issues so I was wondering if I could do a factory wipe on the phone and not use it for data but still use it for the Mini 2 and the DJI Fly app? I know a lot of people are using tablets but I also see comments that they are connecting them to their phone's data, which I could do but didn't know if it was necessary.

No need to even wipe it. Why lose all the other apps?
The only thing he loses is a cellular connection. Everything else stays the same. Might even be able to hotspot it to his new phone!
