51 Drones still isn't concerned about DJI because he's here to help with any brand of drone that comes along in the future (source).

I agree with Russ' current viewpoint on the future of drones especially when it comes to making sure you don't completely rely on camera drones but get to know the FPV space as well. The one piece I disagree with slightly is the "kill switch." IMO, the permanent TFR is the modern "kill switch" and the only effective follow-up to a ban, short of confiscation. That's my prediction, it won't happen right away but it's a matter of when not if.

I am a bit concerned about another possible "kill switch", specifically in controlled airspace. FAA authorizations, particularly LAANC, could possibly be denied for drones on the govt ban list (this doesn't require TFR). While I believe this is not true today, it would be relatively simple policy change for the FAA. (Maybe 50% of my missions are in controlled airspace and require prior authorization.)

At a technical level, authorization requests might include the specific drone registration; I believe this is not currently true but that could change. Even if the specific drone is not included in the authorization request, the wording in the approval could be conditional.

is he worried yet?
He's still making DJI ban videos, so maybe it's starting to sink in. Then again, he might just be chasing the latest hot topic for views. I guess we can't really blame him for that.
