Just bought an Air 3S. It isn't my first DJi Drone. I have been flying for over 6 years.
Question is, what are people using for care refresh replacement? State Farm?
I asked this question with a DJI person and he said warranty situations will be handled... but I dont believe that.
I need some type of reliable insurance in case something, fly away or crash, happens.
This is my first post here, but I have long lurked here gathering usefully information

I have State Farm. But I've had Sate Farm for home and Auto for 50 years. So, I don't know how open they would be to a new customer just for a personal property policy. And they don't cover in 2 or 3 states

I have a Mavic 4 Pro; a Mavic 3, and a Mini 3 Pro covered for loss since replacement might not be an option. I forget the breakdown by Drone, but I have $6.000 in coverage for around $77 a year

Many use the State Farm personal articles policy, however, from my understanding if you make a claim its possible your normal homeowners insurance will go up even if you don't use state farm for homeowners.

I use Squaretrade.

With Care Refresh paid program you send your damaged drone to DJI and DJI provides a generally refurbished within days; a fly away drone is also replaced, for a fee. As far as I know there is no equivalent paid service from any other company in the United States.
You may purchase a liability or other contract privately but they generally will only compensate you for your loss, not provide or assist with obtaining DJI repairs or replacement. It's a totally different policy than Care Refresh.

please explain. What drone(s) you have covered for what amount and the premium

I couldn't navigate past their first page. It also said explicitly that they only cover products bought withing the last 30 days. That effectively eliminates a vast majority of drone owners

https://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/programs/serviceplans/drones.html#

by the way, none of my premiums have ever spiked up after making a claim thru State Farm

I purchased plans for two Mavic 4 Pros through Squaretrade's webpage. Yes you need to buy within $30 days. The three year accident plan for "Misc. Electronic" priced 2.5k-$3k is $515. After you submit your receipts you can call them and ask to specify the make/model of the drone and it'll then show as a drone plan in your online portal. I'm glad you've had good experiences with State Farm; I decided to just go with Squaretrade and not risk it after a State Farm agent got really dodgey about my questions on the issue.

Looks like not much is covered, after reading their exclusions, and since they cannot repair it, a gift card to Staples appears to be your only recovery.

9. WHAT IS NOT COVERED:
  1. Any and all pre-existing conditions that occur prior to the Coverage Start Date of this Protection Plan;
  2. Intentional damage;
  3. Lost, stolen, or irretrievable items;
  4. Any product that is fraudulently described or materially misrepresented;
  5. Maintenance, repair, or replacement necessitated by loss or damage resulting from any cause other than normal use and operation of the product in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and owner's manual, including, but not limited to, exposure to weather conditions, failure to properly clean, maintain or lubricate, operator negligence, misuse, abuse, improper electrical/power supply, improper equipment modifications, attachments or installation or assembly, vandalism, animal or insect infestation, battery leakage, act of nature (any accident caused or produced by any physical cause which cannot be foreseen or prevented, such as storms, perils of the sea, tornadoes, hurricanes, floods and earthquakes), or any other peril originating from outside the product;
  6. Defects due to the initial installation, assembly or hookup of Your Product;
  7. Cases wherein the manufacturer acknowledges the existence of a valid manufacturer's warranty and denies a claim against the manufacturer's warranty;
  8. Claims made under any improperly or incorrectly purchased Protection Plan;
  9. Cosmetic damage to case or cabinetry or other non-operating parts or components which does not affect the functionality of the covered product;
  10. Television or personal computer monitor screen imperfections, including "burn-in" or burned CRT phosphor;
  11. Accidental damage, cracked or damaged monitor, laptop or display screens, liquid damage, lost buttons or knobs etc., unless optional accidental damage from handling (ADH) coverage was offered and purchased at the time of sale with Your Protection Plan;
  12. Projector or rear projection TV bulbs unless Bulb Coverage has been offered and purchased at the time of sale with Your Protection Plan;
  13. Consumer replaceable or consumable batteries unless Battery Coverage has been offered and purchased at the time of sale with Your Protection Plan;

I didn’t buy my plan through staples and a gift card from there was not mentioned in any of the terms I read. The only part of the above that might be an issue as far as I can see is “operator negligence” but if I had screen recordings I could make a valid argument. As with any insurance company, if you search for reviews/experiences it’s a mixed bag with drone claims. I’d rather have it than not.

A while ago, I tried calling a State Farm office for drone insurance and they said I must have my home insured with them. I've been insured since 1970 with USAA through my service with USAF. So no luck with just drone insurance with State Farm for me.

That's the typical reply for the agent who is not aware of the separate standalone drone policy. You should try calling again and asking them to specifically look into it.

"Hey Dale, we checked further and it turns out we actually do have such a policy; I didn't know that...."

you better check closely

when I link to Squaretrade Drone Insurance it sends me here:

that's from Staples....it's right there in the URL

and as Gadget Guy pointed out, one of the exclusions is:

"3. Lost, stolen, or irretrievable items;"

which would mean if you have a flyaway or can't retrieve the drone, you're not covered. And, while it's not exorbitant, $170/year is pretty high, IMO

On #3, don't blame them. Unless someone has access to flight logs or the ability to remotely ground the drone, I don't see how *anyone* can offer bona fide flyaway insurance. What's the stop someone from selling the drone and then claiming the insurance? Understand it's fraud but the answer is going to be I lost it and later I found it and didn't know what to do. Technically the insurance company owns the drone but they never ask for it when you destroy it and they probably don't ask for it should you one day find your "lost" drone so it would be super difficult to pin fraud on you. Instead, the few companies that bother would just pay you once and never again; maybe ask for a police report to keep you honest.

The fact that you can buy Squaretrade coverage through staples is irrelevant to me. I didn't buy anything from staples, I purchased my plan here:
Since I bought directly from Squaretrade, my plans are subject to the terms here:
The terms are different depending on where you bought your plan, but I did not buy from staples... Nowhere in the terms linked about is staples mentioned...

I knew there was no flyaway coverage when I bought the insurance and I was ok with that. I knew the price was ~$170 per year and I preferred to pay that higher price than risk my homeowners insurance going up if I made a claim with a state farm plan. You may have had good luck with them, and I'm happy for you; however, after how cagey the state farm rep was about the issue, I did not trust it and decided I'd rather pay more.

so then, $170/year and if you lose your drone and are unable to recover it, you have no coverage?

I believe the best way to describe it is a unrecovered drone is not automatically covered. If you have pictures/video of your drone at the bottom of a lake or high up in a tree, you might be able to convince them.

Don't get a plan called Extend. I purchased my Mini4P from Adorama and purchased their version of protection from accidental spills drops and so on.
I didn't read deep enough I guess, Their repair center has had my drone since 10/27/25.

They definitely have given themselves plenty of outs to avoid paying, should they desire to. Since some form of pilot error is the root cause of almost all drone crashes and the most desired pilot coverage, the operator negligence exclusion precludes a recovery under such a claim, depending upon how knowledgeable their claims department is about the cause of drone crashes. Rather than just screen recordings, your flight logs would be needed to prove no pilot negligence, just as with a DJI warranty claim.

The lost, stolen, or irretrievable exclusion means you need the carcass for any claim, just like under DJI Care, before DJI decided to offer so called "Fly Away" claims at a much higher deductible, where the drone is unrecoverable.

Fingers crossed you never need to file a claim. That's the best outcome!
