When comparing the two, it appears there are differences between them. MAIN CONTROLLER SETTINGS:

1. No Home Point Settings on my APP vs. Manual has picture of it.
2. APP says set Max Flight Altitude vs. Manual says Max Flight Altitude
3. APP says Enable Max Distance vs. Manual -Max Flight Distance.

ADVANCE SETTINGS: Do these settings need to set in any particular manner - if using Main Controller Settings? As a beginner what to do? Does beginner Mode negate these settings?

Just purchased and downloaded info in Dec 2017, Why the Variations?

The difference are because the DJI Go4 is a cross platform application used by Inspire 2 Phantom 4's, Mavic's and Spark's

So some features are different across models and also across device operating systems ( android and IOS), have you ever noticed it needs to select the AC on start up.

The one thing I check in advanced settings is the RC signal loss setting, make sure it's set to "Return to Home" if outside and "Hover" inside.

Also in general settings make sure you've set your RTH height to higher than nearby obstacles e.g buildings, trees etc. That way the Mavic will fly over them instead of through them on a RTH.
