DJI Let me down and cheesed my melon

I can sort of see why that functionality is there - probably a vestigial function left over from back when DJI had to hold people accountable for their flyings. I imagine I would quite enjoy that little restriction if my UAV was ever stolen !

The thing I really don't get the reason for is the requirement to create an account and log in / activate before you can start using their action-cams. If you can't do this, you get 5 uses and that's your lot until you do !

It's how they install their special spyware, because our lives are so very interesting to them, not that our social media posts made from the action-cams don't already provide that anyway! LOL!

Wish I could do both a 😍 and a laugh 🤣 for this post instead of having to reply to do so. Hard to believe our politicians are so gullible or think we are so stupid to believe the anti-CCP consumer drone tripe spread by Stefanic and Skydio.

Don't always need to login to your home wifi, you can set up a wifi Hotspot in the field with your phone. Of course it helps if you fly with a different device than that phone.

That is assuming you are in an area where you have cell service - if you do, you are fine, but if you don't you are kind of out of luck - I learned the hard way.

I should set my phone up as a hot spot just in case something happens in the future.

I got all logged in and went flying at the same place. The geofence was gone but, oddly, I had a 150 foot ceiling. It's not listed on Autopylot

For today's exercise, I set up a waypoint mission. I was not excited about the results.
At one spot I had set a marker and it got too close to a tree. I have the controller set to stop at obstacles and that ends the mission even though I manually avoided the tree on the second run.

I also must have changed a setting because the drone no longer stops on a dime. When I rotate, it doesn't stop when I let off the stick. It slowly fades and at full speed rotation that ends up being an almost 90 degree overrun.

I did manage a complete unassisted landing on the landing pad.

I’ve only ever tried a RTH and landing once for each of the 3 drones I own just to make sure it works. Surely bringing the drone home and landing it safely is all part of flying! It’s also a lot quieter with none of the loud warning beeps from the controller!

Depending upon your controller, all audio can be completely silenced, after turning the volume to zero and asking for complete silence.

Not from the RC-N2. It’s a solid state piezoelectric buzzer with no volume control. With the Mavic Pro controller I purchased the silencio hack so IF I’d wanted to RTH and land it would do so quietly but that also silenced all the beeps from the controller 👍. Those that were emitted via the iPhone/ipad can be controlled/muted using the iPhone/ipad volume control.
The Autel controller also emits uncontrollable sounds. That can’t be silenced easily either.

Yes, that's why I said depending upon your controller. The RC Pro and RC Pro 2 let you completely silence the device. For the others, I have always drilled a hole in the case at the precise location over the solid state piezoelectric buzzer, where the silver top is visible through the opening in the top of the buzzer. Then insert a Q tip shaft with the cotton removed through the hole and against the metal speaker inside. Then, cut it off, leaving just enough sticking out to be able to apply pressure on the speaker. Cover with tape. Now you have a pressure volume switch. The default pressure should be enough to turn it into the mewing of a kitten instead of a howling alley cat. By pressing on it, you can then silence it completely during landing.

The biggest challenge is finding out exactly where to drill the hole in the case over the buzzer. Online tear downs are very helpful in that regard. Even if you are off by a few millimeters, you then can enlarge the hole slightly to see inside and locate the silver speaker and muffle it.

Others just split the case open and access it that way and cut the wires, but I wanted to still be able to hear it muffled, and control the volume, with a complete mute capability.
