Does anyone here fly their drone?

So last night I started making waypoint missions for my upcoming trip. When I went to save my first mission, I found it wouldn't rename the mission. It kept reverting to the default name DJI gives them, which is time and date the mission was created. It also had some stuff when I first started the waypoint editor, about syncing my missions with my account. All my old missions still had their correct names. I emailed DJI Support and am waiting for their reply.
Then I Googled this and found this:

The primary problem with DJI Waypoint editor naming is a persistent bug, particularly noted after a May 2025 update for the RC 2 controller, where users are unable to save missions with a custom name as the system automatically reverts to a default name.

Description of the Problem

When users attempt to assign a custom, descriptive name to a saved waypoint mission within the DJI Fly app's "Task Library", the software fails to register the new name and defaults back to a generic name usually based on the date and time of creation (e.g., a string of numbers). This makes managing and identifying multiple saved missions difficult.

So i searched mavic pilots, and found absolutely nothing about this. So do any of the hundreds of millions of mavic pilots members actually fly their drones?

Waypoint Missions are a unique subset of drone flights only available on newer drones, which many cannot use because of Waypoint limitations such as no negative altitudes when flying from a hilltop over lower ground. Those actually using Waypoint Missions are more inclined to be professionals needing Waypoint missions, in which case they are using the superior RC Pro or RC Pro 2, instead of the poor man's RC 2 controller.

What a strange question. I would say most members here fly their drones.
You you like to clarify your definition of flying your drone

I think he’s classing using automated flight such as the use of waypoints as flying your drone. To me, that is only flying the drone once and then letting some software do the flying while you twiddle your thumbs and being bored as he’s wittering on about the same DJI software not doing what he wants it to!

On my RC Pro 2 I can re-name waypoint missions. It is a little finicky, but yes I re-name them and it is essential to identifying which ones to use.

All my waypoint missions are on my tablet and a RC-N1. I find the small screens and lower map resolution of my DJI RC doesn't work good for detailed missions.

I’ve owned drones since 2016 and yes I fly them, in that I normally rarely use the various quickshot offers or even RTH. No, I’ve never ever used waypoints so wouldn’t be aware of problems with them.
I agree that the title is bad. I was just angry about this when I found out. I will try to rename the title.

I fly both manually and using waypoint missions. So they're both valid forms of flight. My title is bad. I find in urban areas where signal doesn't travel far, waypoint missions work better. But over water or in open spaces manual control is better.

I don't fly for the enjoyment although that is part of it. I fly to get the video. Sometimes waypoint missions seem to work better.

Each to their own. If we were all the same the world would be boring. While I can see the point of waypoint missions in getting reproducible flights, pictures and videos, if they can’t even get file renaming right, who’s to know what else they’ve got wrong? We know they’ve got the green flashing light while videoing wrong, there’s a problem with the spotlight and cinematic mode combination.

Assigning points on a screen and having the Drone go to them is not flying your Drone. In fact anyone using a mode on their DJI isnt flying a drone. You are simply "pushing" the thing around with the sticks.
Put your Drone in Acro, (or manual for a DJI I suppose).
Until then...You don't know how to fly a drone!...Sorry.

I bet many people said the same thing about cars with automatic transmissions when those first came out.

Fly my drone(s)? Yes. Every time I send one up.

What I don't like to do is abnegate control to 'automated' routines. I think I've only ever used one of the DJI waypoints functions once (out of idle curiosity).

But responding to the core of the original comment: I have noticed that the DJI FLY app is getting increasingly flakey - there are a lot more forum comments about bugs, glitches and inexplicable behaviour than there have been for a few years - a lot of it as a result of the app coders trying to shoehorn a quart into a pint pot.

Well...

You want to really fly your drone get rid of the IMU and the automatic attitude hold, and fly one with just simple stick input mixing to control the thrust of the motors.

Now THAT'S old school, full manual control without any automatic control by on-board processing 😉

Impossible with a DJI drone, but you could build one like the old days.

So would you suggest an F18 pilot, with fly by wire and computer aided trim and flight controls is not a pilot and not flying his plane?
