does the mavic air 2 work without cell service

It works just fine like you can walk without cell service.
No help needed ... just fly.
I appreciate the response… Been flying my drone for years, but I ran into a problem when I was in the mountains In Idaho because I didn't have cell service.do I have to put it in some different type of mode so I can view my flight through Cell phone because my cell phone is my controller Viewing screen… How can I fly it and see what it sees without cell service?

I can't tell what your issue was from your description but you don't need cell service to view your flight on your phone.
And you don't need to "put it in some different type of mode" or anything like that.
There's no trick to it at all.

If you power up your mobile phone (your phone can be placed in airplane mode so there are no wifi or bluetooth or cellular signals needed) and then you connect the mobile phone to your drone's remote controller using a cable, you should be able to fly the drone using the remote controller (when you connect the remote controller to the drone) and use your mobile phone's display only to view the camera and see the controls.

You don't need cell service to fly any DJI drone. The only time you might need cell service is if you are flying and want to display maps in real time, as you fly. The controller and the drone have their own dedicated wifi type system and this is what binds the two together and sends the video signal.

All your phone is used for, is to act as a viewing screen or monitor, to display what the camera is seeing as you fly, plus gives you data about the flight displayed on your phone screen, just as it would be if you were using an auxiliary monitor to see what your drone's camera was seeing.

Could you explain what issue(s) you were having?

@hiflyer201 That's one thing I was concerned about. After sitting for the winter, I took out my Air 3 and hooked up my tablet (which does not have cell service) ran the updates and it wanted me to log into my account. Luckily I was at home so I had wifi, but if I'm out and about...Am I going to be required to log in every time?

No. You won't need to log in to your DJI account every time you set up on location. The sporadic auto log-out seems to occur quite randomly and only happens when you haven't used the account for a period of time (nobody seems to have worked out the accurate timespan that triggers the log-out yet).

Easiest way to head the problem off at the pass is to tap the app on your flight screen device before you leave home - letting it connect through your home network - and browse through the menus a bit to make sure you're still logged in. That way when you get to location: you'll be connecting the drone and controller to an active account

I have had that issue if I haven't flown in a month or so. You won't need to log in for every flight.
Just good practice to log in before you leave home or before you are out of cell range.
It's also good to check the area you may be flying in using ALOFT to see the weather and possible restrictions.
DJI Geofences some areas if near airports or sensitive areas or you just may need LAANC approval to fly in the location.
Get LAANC approval first and DJI will usually unlock your drone.
This affects both commercial and recreational flights............. Good luck
