CAAT announcement

Temporary Nationwide Drone Ban According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT),

All drone operations are prohibited nationwide from 30 July – 15 August 2025, or until further notice.

Reason: National security concerns due to tensions along the Thai–Cambodian border.

Violators may face up to 1 year in prison, a fine up to 40,000 THB, or both, and authorities have the right to neutralize drones deemed a threat.

Please avoid flying drones during this period for everyone’s safety.

Well, that's sucks. We're setting up in America for something similar except our timing will be more "permanent." But it will be the same; National Security concerns.

Can't imagine any sort of comprehensive permanent drone ban will fly in the US (pun intended). I get what it's happening the OPs case--but even that will most likely be temporary.

Anyone remember how quiet the skies were after 9-11? In an emergency the FAA/government can clear the air. This could easily be extended appropriately to drones.

This is how easy it is for someone, anyone to ask the FAA for a TFR. If they don't want you to fly a drone, a TFR will go up and there's nothing you can do about it; no exceptions. You can be and will be arrested by anyone with a badge, no questions. Nothing is every permanent but when you arbitrary use a data that is not related to a direct security issue then it could be 2025 or it could be 2035, it may as well be permanent. TFR are easily renewed and who's going to keep checking to see if and when you are allowed to fly. Image one of these over the entire country for "security reasons." The only reason for this one in particular is to prevent drones from recording the illegal activities by ICE at their facilities; there are several of these in place.

If you don't believe governments will eventually learn one of these TFRs will immediately put an instant stop to all legal drone activity indefinitely (until you get around to working out the new laws) and this is the most effective tool they can implement because the FAA won't tell them "No" then you're in for quite the shock when these start popping up everywhere. The bad actor won't obey the TFR but that's not the point, is it.
