Personally I do NOT have any issues with launching the drone but I wanted to know what fellow drone pilots think about someone who brings out their drone to a scene or fly around the neighborhood surveying potential damage during an event (not a disaster area) or later during the cleanup or recovery process:

[not me, not my video]

OMG! May I ask if this was your video, and if it was what was the Police’s reaction to you flying there at the time.!
Personally I don’t think it would be an issue under these circumstances, but then I think I’d be a little nervous to do it myself so I’m not sure. There’s no impeding or interfering with responders and if they felt there was I’m sure the Police would say something about it to the pilot if they felt there was an issue.

I didn't watch the whole video. But from what I saw I do not see anything majorly wrong. It did not fly over people or moving vehicles, it did not interfere with public safety personnel.

But I could see some police officers maybe getting over zealous and asking you to land.

Thanks for sharing mavic3usa.

Ice storms suck.

You can shovel snow, but not a darn thing you can do with ice.

No sorry, not me not my video. I usually label it, forgot to this time....I'll go back.

I've always thought about doing something like this but sometimes I get self-conscious about going around looking at all the damage while people are having a hard time. I guess it would be ok in my own AO but I would never travel to another location to check it out.

We had a house that caught fire down the street several years ago and I thought about filming the damage done for a before and after pic, video (for me not anyone online), but thought better of it and didn’t. It’s been rebuilt since and doesn’t look like the same house now at all. I can’t see anything wrong with filming a snowstorm or ice storm after the fact though. It’s a weather event. In a weird crazy way ice on the trees in the sunlight can be quite beautiful. I have several from over the years taken with my drones.

I saw nothing wrong with that video.
There's no reason someone can't fly a drone to survey damage, for entertainment or pay (if they have their part 107).
I would do the same thing if we had weather worth filming.

Case in point, remember back in the day when the only videos you seen where the ones you’ve taken? Now you see it everyday in commercials, news, weather, ect.

yeah pretty amazing that you can see what is going on with your own eyes pretty much anywhere in the world, not just last year or last month or last week....but last hour! It's because someone somewhere everybody has a good camera.
