Why are so many drone makers still only using wifi tech for video transmission whereas there is only the Mavic and Autel's Evo using the Ocusync type Technology for their transmission range? I'm surprised with so much competition out there eg. Parrot, Eachine etc there's not more of this Lightbridge / Occusync type tech available to other drones seeing as it's been around for several years?

My knowledge on the availability and costs of using the tech is limited but this is intended as a serious question. :D

maybe because there are patents that prevent their widespread use and also there could be a cost factor involved

Power consumption is the biggie here. If you want long flight time you need to choose a transmission system that draws the least power, which is WiFi. Drones are Avery sophisticated set of trade offs with competing requirements.

Thanks for the replies.

25-30 mins flight time with an Ocusync DJI drone is quite generous flight time, especially Compared to my previous wifi based Potensic drone which had a max flight time of about 12 minutes on a single charge and a range of about 50 meters (if you're lucky). It shows you can still get quite good flight time from a battery of an Ocusync drone, even if it does consume more power.

I'd much rather spend a little more and have more range and connection stability over better power efficiency. You increase your flight time with spare batteries anyway.

I can understand not every enthusiast wants to fork out for a half decent quad though.
