Snake River Canyon, about 475 feet deep here. Staying within a couple hundred feet of the rim while descending is what I do in these situations. Then find a feature that is down there at a safe altitude for a reference. Those rocks are about 1000 feet away and ~80 feet high. I was having a hard time maintaining VLOS even with a 3NM strobe, not to mention the vertigo standing so close to the edge, lol.
