Having used the Mavic with Lightning cable (already fitted to controller) to iPhone 6 and the USB micro cable to Samsung S7, I'm wondering what the other cable is for? Is this a new fabled type of USB that is going to connect to the iPhone 8?

The third cable isn't in the "What's in the box?" booklet, so can only assume this got thrown in at a later date.

It's a USB-C cable - this is a newer standard that's used on some Android phones and some PC's, Apple are only offering USB-C ports on their new Macbooks. There was a recent rumour that the new iPhone would use a USB-C connector instead of Lightning but this seems to be a misunderstanding, it's likely that the iPhone 8 will continue to use a proprietary connector (they've never used a standard connector) but it will have a lightning to USB-C cable instead of a lightning to USB-A cable (the normal type of USB port) since the new Macbooks are USB-C only.

Never come across it until now, by the look of it they have made it so that there is no "right way up" copying the positive aspect of Lightning whilst retaining the exposed connections on the inside of Micro USB. Sensible. But annoying that my arsenal of Micro USB cables will soon become obsolete!

The fact that Apple have adopted it suggests they may well use it in the phones (probably still have an ID chip in the cable!)

Time will tell...

Apple won't be using it on their phones or iPads, aside from the fact they've never supported a USB standard on their phones/tablets, there's little reason for them to change so recently after implementing Lightning connectors as standard.

The laptops are different, they've always supported standard USB and they need to be able to do so to support a range of devices. The USB-C port can also support Thunderbolt without a separate port and this implementation is getting wider support on non-Apple machines compared to the mini-DP Thunderbolt which pretty much only Apple supported.

Off topic.. apparently there won't be iPhone 8, instead it will be called iPhone X (10 years of iPhone). I might not be right here ;)

I have read where several people have mentioned a 90 degree 8" cable. I have been unable to find one. If any of you know where to order one, I would appreciate receiving this information

A little off topic but about USB cables, I'm pretty sure using cheap USB cables will make the video transmission almost unusable. Earlier in the day I used the supplied USB cable and everything was fine, well later I went out to fly and forgot it, I found a cheap USB cord in my car and me thinking it would be fine, the video was terrible with that cable.
