So sorry for your experience. It is a pretty amazing stateI wanted to take a drone to Alaska last year when we did a land and sea cruise but Princess Line absolutely refused to allow it, even if I let them store it during the cruise portion. Even worse, I could find no one I could talk to who even had the ability to grant a waiver even though their literature says it can be done. The best they could tell me is I could bring it, but they couldn't guarantee I would be allowed to bring on board, in which case I would have to scramble to send it back home.
Despite this bull-pucky, I was able to get some great shots with my phone. I've been to Alaska 3 times, including a summer trip when my wife and I drove there pulling our 5th wheel trailer. At my age, I will probably never get the opportunity to return, though I have thought about flying in and renting a small motor home. Alaska is, in my opinion, the most beautiful state in our nation, offering a vast and diverse landscape that is limited only by one's time and imagination. And it's scenery is a drone pilot's dream.
Just a few stills from my last trip, imagine if I had my drone!

Oh...not true. These fires are all (I think) started by wildfire. Many fires, like the huge fire in the Yellowstone area (if I have that right) years ago are due to efforts to limit fires and underbrush building up which, when ignited by lightening makes the fire even worse. Some species of tree seeds require fire to open or at least that is my understanding. If a fire happens in the wilderness of Alaska where there is no threat to homes, structures, or people they are just left to burn. You could do a bit of research on this and prove me wrong. I was wrong about something a few years ago and it could happen again...You mentioned ecology.
I have yet to understand the fire fighting industry. There was no such thing prior to the wheel being discovered.
As I said, we do exactly that in Alaska unless the fire is going to impact people or homes or other structures. Seems like a good compromise.Clarification.
Mother Nature didn’t do firefighting. She let fires take their course.
She has several methods for seed propagation, fire being one.
Modern firefighting is just that, protecting humans and their belongings
at substantial tax payer expense.
The wheel is related to timeline. With the advent of wheels, that allowed water carrying capability which increased humans ability to extinguish fires.
I have always thought we should let Mother Nature do what she knows best.
