Have we done this one yet? Seen it posted in several places on the internet but not surprised. Drones are constantly under attack not only from the federal, state, and local governments but also from the citizens and even within the drone and rc community. It's just a matter of time before the legal activity reaches an unrelenting pitch and something is going to sneak thru. I wish we could do more to fight back and it's not too late but at some point, we gotta take off the hat and put on the helmet. Low chance of passing but sooner or later, the pace is going to pick up.

I was sent this yesterday.I'm keeping a close eye on it via Gov Track. If Lee gets traction on this, DAA will put out a campaign as well. I did not know Miriam had written an article though.

What a mess that would be. I feel like the FAA would be opposed to flying planes over a landscape where under 200' is a spin-the-wheel situation.

To say this is a bad idea is a vast understatement. Write your Senators NOW, and if you happen to live in Lee's state (Utah) not only write, but drop in his office and tell him or his staff how screwed up his idea is and why. Maybe he's one of those rare politicians who will listen.

I really despise the Language they use when they draft Bills, I hope you can decipher and give us the layman's version of it.

The bill would give the right to states and local governments to establish limitation on flights by commercial and UAV's. It would enable them to limit flights over specific areas, such as schools, parks, bridges, moving locations (?) or other public area and private land (without permission of owner), parades and sporting events. Flights would be allowed with a minimum of 200 feet altitude.

In addition to these prohibitions, it would also allow states/municipalities to charge a fee for flights, including takeoff and landing. Although the legislation states licensed pilots, none of the restrictions nor the legislation as a whole, exempts recreational pilots.

In other words, it could make it very difficult to determine whether you can fly anywhere at any given time, since you would need to know both the State's and local rules.
