First Flight with Mavic Mini

I've had my Mavic Mini for 3 weeks now, but either the wind has been too strong to feel safe flying it or it has been too cloudy to want to. Apart from a very brief attempt when I got a warning that the wind was too strong this is my first flight.

You live in a beautiful place there Brian. The Canary Islands have been on my bucket list forever. Great diving, sailing and game fishing, and I hear Lanzarote's volcanic landscape is other worldly. I look forward to seeing more footage as you gain more flight time with the MM

Hi Brian - Great video for your first time with the mini. You know you reach a certain age where you think “ sod the money “, I really enjoy the mini, first drone, had it about three weeks but like you was limited by the wind so splashed out on the Air 2 combo which
I’ve had for about two weeks- much more stable in the wind and if you ever think of upgrading...........! Anyway, love them both!
Hopefully will get to Lanzerote sometime in the future and would love to meet up, all depends on the virus and quarantine!

Welcome to our forum, Brian, from Hauptmann in Texas, USA.

You'll find that the Mini almost flies itself. This can lead to overconfidence. Try to be conservative at first, and expand your horizons gradually. The Mini, at only 249 grams, doesn't handle wind as well as the heavier drones do. On windy days it's best to fly the Mini so that you have a tail wind on the way back.

Read your manual (links below), and practice using "Find My Drone". Chances are you'll crash and perhaps lose your drone. Don't wait 'til that happens to try to learn under stress in less than ideal conditions.

I have a Phantom 3 4K, which copes admirably with the wind, but I've already dropped a hint to my wife about a Mavic Air 2 for Christmas. Gotta spend the pension on something worthwhile! ;-)

Look forward to times getting back to something like normal and meeting up in Lanzarote.
