Flight around the Acropolis of Athens

B
Well, i flew when the Acropolis was closed and no security guards around. And indeed i flew from a hill opposite the Acropolis (Areopagus). I saw at least two more drones flying around. I was careful at least not to fly over the Parthenon.

Few months ago i was with a friend taking pictures at the Acropolis at night with tripod. So we were shooting from the area of Pnyka, just opposite the Acropolis. It was around midnight. There is a security guard there and we went next to were he sits with our tripods. He stood up and told us it is illegal to take pictures with a tripod and that we should at least go somewhere where he cannot see us :). And so we did..

Thanks for watching and the comments btw
Brilliant video. I am planning to visit Athens in September with my MP. Is there anything I should be aware of wrt where you are not allowed to fly. I read that it is permitted to fly drones as long as you stay within 50m. Did you fly with waypoints and a pre-programmed route, or was it spur of the moment free flight?

You gonna have a great time! Indeed, in Greece if you want to fly a drone you need to register and get approval.

I flew in the evening, from the Areopagus hill, just opposite the Acropolis. I would not take off from Pnyka or Fillopapou as there are guards there. I did not use waypoints as i like to have control. If you want to shoot a similar video, i suggest you dont fly when the Acropolis is open (cause it will be crowded and anyways hot!) but after it closes or before it opens. Colors are nicer and it is not crowded. Chances are that there will be other drones flying around so be careful...

Now if you want to follow all the rules and laws in Greece read the following:
http://www.hcaa.gr/en/HCAA_UAS_FLT_request_editable.pdf (instructions to register your flight and drone)
https://dagr.hcaa.gr (updated map of where it is allowed to fly)

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the very informative info. Is there perhaps an email on which I can contact you off line if I need more information?
