Fly-a-ways, real new-b question

Yes, that's of course the best case scenario.

Here are a few other things that can happen:
  • The Mavic could lose GPS (preventing it from locating the home point) and land at its current location
I thought it normally went into ATTI (attitude) mode when it loses GPS, requiring manual input and otherwise drifting with the wind. If so, can it still control altitude, as with a barometric sensor?

Yes, you are right. You still can control the Mavic with the remote control..

But note, @msinger replied to a post:
it's my understanding that if the signal is lost to the drone, or the Tx is turned off, the RTH function takes over and the drone returns home

That is the only failsafe (land at current location) the aircraft has, if
a) No GPS lock
AND
b) Command & Control link is lost

Yes

Yes, the Mavic will automatically holds its altitude when flying in ATTI mode.

Sorry, but what is a marco polo. and where do you get it, and how do you put it on.??
Marco Polo is an excellent tracker, a small transmitter attaches to your Mavic, sends out a radio "ping" that the receiver can pick up, like a homing beacon. Good for at least 2 miles, depending upon the area you are in, mountainous, desert, residential, etc. Get it on Amazon

Does it actually do this (land) if in ATTI mode and then RC is lost? There is no setting for "GPS Loss".

When the remote controller signal is lost, the Mavic will initiate RTH by default. In DJI GO, you can also change the RC signal lost action to "Hover" or "Landing". If RTH is initiated while the Mavic is flying in ATTI mode, it will auto land at its current location.

actually one good area regarding the marco polo is it doesnt send out ant pings until the tracker actually pings it and even then its just a 50 millisecond ping every 10 secs,so theres no interference with the mavic
