Fly Zone Update

I've been getting these pop ups at start to update no fly Zone or something like that, I downloaded one last flight, but next outing it asked me again for the same if not different update and I ignored it a flew just fine, question is are these necessary

I ignore my update notice every time I fly with no problems.

I always ignore this, but only because for me it never successfully downloads. It usually gets to around 10% or so and fails, once I thought it was going to complete as it got to around 70%, but then it failed again. The pop up is annoying though!
