Flying below freezing

I have always taken off on top of my tonneau cover on my truck bed. It's aluminum but the truck frame is steal. I have never had a compass calibration warning. That's been with the spark, mini, mini 2 and 3, air, air 2s, and now the air 3s ( which I may be selling shortly )
Only time I have gotten a warning about the compass was when I was launching from the ground at glass butte in eastern oregon, probably due to the mineral and iron ore content around

Starting and launching near ferrous metal is a potential compass bias problem, not a calibration problem. No warnings will appear to indicate a bias problem.

To avoid a bias problem and possible uncontrollable flight, just confirm that the compass reflects the actual drone orientation before lifting off.

I wanted to capture a few images of rafts of ice drifting down the Colorado River and flew from the Loma launch ramp five miles west of my home in Fruita, Colorado. It was breezy, and temperatures were in the teens. No performance issues, but I could see the drone crabbing into the wind. I opted to go without gloves while operating the controls, so the heated steering wheel in my car was a welcome relief on the drive home.

Once home, I left the drone and controller in the garage (unheated but insulated and about 50 degrees F) for an hour or so to let them gradually warm up in that low humidity environment before taking them in the house and storing them in their case.

Looks very cold, it is here. My hands are a mess, cracked and very sore and painful.

Last year I shot for a week in -40F/-40C temperatures in the Canadian Rockies mostly with these

They were good for operating the camera for about 5 mins at -40F, after which my hands went into pockets with chemical warmers. Was good for 3-4 hours outside with this method. The gloves are surprisingly warm and good with touch screens. They pill a lot and are more or less single use items though. Have not used them with a drone.

It was coooold, the pic below is of my wife a few minutes after stepping outside
