Flying drones in Portugal

Hi There,

I am visiting Portugal in September. I started to research what is required to fly the drone in Portugal and it is very confusing. Some say, if you are flying recreational you do not need to have register the drone or to get any authorizations to fly. Other say you need to register the drone, go through the training course and pass a test, and then get various authorizations. I am in US, tried registering, but could not. Has anyone from US was able to successfully register? Or, I do not need to go through the whole process?

It looks like you would need to register as a drone pilot and you would need National Aeronautical Authority authorization to take still images and/or video.

Bang on. I have just done it and you need to sit the European A1/A3 if you are flying in the open category as a pilot. You also need to register as an operator. Once you have done that you apply to the AAN and make a declaration which needs to have a digital signature (not an e-signature). Once all accepted, you have access to their web site where you can request flights in authorisation areas. Quite a faff I have to say.

After that, you just have to request to fly (for each different zone) here: e-AAN - Login
For the training, you can do it in Portuguese ANAC here: https://rp.anac.pt or you can make it in other european country.

I tried to egister, but I was not able to. I believe, in order to register I need to provide a Portugal address, which I do not have. Without a physical Portugal address, I cannot get the digital authentication key. With out the key I cannot register. I did however, register with e-AAN and submitted several areas for approval.

I will be in Lisbon and Sintra. I submitted approval request with e-AAN for both Lisbon and Sintra. However, Sintra may not be approved, because the whole town is under military no fly zone.

In Sintra i think it will also depend on the altitude requested.

I think I requested 100m. I just want to take aerial photos of the Castle and the Palace.

I successfully managed to register and also send applications through e-AAN, although I'm confused about a few things:
Let's say I'll get a full authorization for the area and altitude I have applied for - how should I handle the additional warnings and hints the Voa na Boa app gives me?
e.g. in some places:
Up to 30m Authorization: ANAC / More 30m Authorization: ANAC [e-mail address]
--> Is "ANAC" the same as "AAN"? For flying higher than 30m, do I have to write a separate e-mail to the address provided?

When swiping to the left, it tells me "[ICAO code] - [Airport name]"
"Needs special attention before fly: [ICAO code] - [Airport name] - [e-mail address]"
--> Do I have to write a separate e-mail to the airport?

Did you get it? I can't figure out the AAN registration when it wants NI/CC/NIPC and tax numbers. FOr Portugal? US? What do you put here when AMerican citizen?

I did not. It is virtually impossible to get the authorization with out an actual EU address.

Hoping to visit Albufeira this summer and fly on the Praia de FALESIA so watching this thread with interest.

Passed A1/A3 test in Cyprus but taking my Air 3s to Portugal. Have EU operator ID displayed on the drone.
