I was flying in some patchy fog and twice the app called out"landing" while I was 50' or so in the air.Is this because the sensors mistook the fog below for a landing spot?

Yes Most likely that is exactly the cause it has also happened to us when flying the Mavic 2 Zoom in a Blizzard at 75ft and it attempted to land.

Those sensor can get confused rather easily..

Maybe you can post your video and see if they compare to Visuals as this one.

We were purposely flying the camera directly into the blizzard to see how it would respond and if it got covered in snow and if the Prop icing would cause issues, The only issue was the drone wanting to land in flight. Notice the White out acts as a fog.

The downward sensors picked up something (fog) close below the drone and if you were descending, it will have paused to avoid crashing.
Continuing to descend will have brought up the landing message.

Yes. The lady inside the app will say "landing" only if you hold the throttle stick fully down for more than 2 seconds. If you want to fly in such environment, do not pull the throttle stick all the way down but keep some small distance from the lower end.

I went up through fog yesterday morning for the first time (M2Z).ECB758E0-A2FE-498A-9327-4D6ED95198BA_1_201_a.jpeg

I had water on the top of all four legs, but no landing issue. Broke though the fog at 240 feet.
