Follow then lead at high speed

I've been wanting to try this for a long time. It's a difficult maneuver to get right and make it look seamless. I wish I could say I did it but it's not that great. Wondering if anyone has some tips on doing this.

The idea is to transition from following at high speed and circle around maintaining speed, to then leading while having the camera on the object the whole time. Would be easy with an Inspire but quite a different story with the Mavic.
