Does the $800 de minimus exception still apply in Japan, and if so, does it also expire on August 28th?
Technically, according to U.S. Customs, the tariffs are based upon the country of origin, rather than the country from which it is imported. So since China is still the country of origin, the current Chinese tariffs of 30% are supposed to apply, and the Chinese $800 de minimus exception already expired, and cannot be used.
However, as long as the seller is the shipper, and on eBay they are, they are responsible for the accuracy of the Customs declaration form they fill out for the package, not you. Any inaccuracies are on them, not you.
You're in the clear, unless it comes with a bill from the courier for unpaid tariffs.

I just checked, and found this, which confirms Japan's $800 de minimus exemption is still in effect until August 29th, and has another further exemption for postal shipments for a flat $80 until February 28, 2026.

• The U.S. de minimis exemption for goods from Japan ends on August 29, 2025, meaning shipments from Japan to the U.S. valued under $800 will no longer enter duty-free.
• However, there's a transition period for postal shipments from Japan to the U.S. until February 28, 2026, during which a flat duty ($80) will be charged per item before the standard 15% ad valorem tariff applies.

China's de minimus exemption has already ended.

At $5500, he's matching Adorama's pre-order price and no wait until October.
Open box because he "had to test it" seems a bit odd.
However, $3800 from Korea, being resold for $5500 in the U.S. is a sweet $1700 profit, and a 45% markup. After August 28th, the Korean $3800 price will certainly go up, so $5500 may be the competitive U.S. price. Those who took the risk will profit handsomely, should they wish to resell.

Actually, the shipper is responsible for the accuracy of the customs declaration, not the recipient. I, too, paid $5,000 to Adorama with sales tax for my Creator Combo. Not pissed at all. Willing buyer. Buying another for $3800 including tax from Korea on eBay is averaging down my per unit cost, so I have a backup. There is absolutely no difference between the Adorama sourced units from Canada and the Korean sourced units. Same drone. Same specs. Much better price. Same repair facility of DJI USA, with limited access to refurbs, whether you bought from Adorama or Korea.

However, I would not buy from a private seller who refuses to disclose where they acquired the drone from, and who will not produce a receipt showing a legal purchase, nor disclose what they paid for the drone, regardless of the asking price. Stating their asking price is the price they go for in the U.S. when they are not for sale in the U.S. by DJI is highly misleading, when all the drones are being sourced from outside the U.S., and Korea is currently the cheapest source from which many of our members have had great success at $1000 to $2000 less than Adorama has been selling them for, but Adorama can now only take pre-orders for October delivery. If you want one now, Korea is still the best source. However, after August 28th, things will change, but I suspect the underground Korean railroad will still continue in a modified form. We'll see.

You also have and never had any intention of buying this from me and inviting people to buy from someone else for any price in a classified listing is all very well, it is shady that's what it is. I never said it was too much work for someone who asks me who is not a troll, who is actually interested in buying this. But you are not. And you have done this on several of people's listings on here that you have had no intention of purchasing from.
You are no mod so what exactly are you doing? Are you one of those people who wanted to be a cop but couldn't make the cut? And now you enjoy bothering others or what?

I'm asking now. Any reasonable seller would have already freely disclosed
such information as part of the story behind the sale. You still haven’t told us where you got it from, nor why you decided to wait until now (since May 30th) to sell it at $1000 more than what it can currently be purchased for from eBay, while the de minimus exception is still available to avoid scrutiny of Customs.

What's the urgency to sell now? That's part of the story. Anyone buying from a private seller must buy your story before they will trust you enough to buy from you.

I also have been strongly suggesting that you are being impatient. In another week, your price may have no other competition, after August 28. You are a week too early. Your fruit is ripening on the vine as we speak.

We are a public forum and you paid nothing for your classified ad. We are free to comment and evaluate your offering so our members can help each other vet you and your offering. In another week, if and when $1000 cheaper Korean alternatives dry up, I'll be happy to promote your offering as a good deal. I was one of the first to defend your offering as legit, but pricey, while others called it a scam. Can't you wait 7 more days?

What am I doing? What are you doing? Post up proof you own this drone and have it in your possession and you might actually have some interested buyers, especially in a week. It's really not hard to do and your reluctance to do it, while continuing to write replies to everyone, well, as my Chief would say......suspect....
