For those wondering about the Phantom 4

So DJI is canceling the cancellation? Not exactly, per the article. They are still sticking to the "parts shortage" story, and even the articles author is skeptical about the story.

The source at DJI does make it clear that there will not be a Phantom 5. Maybe that cancellation will be canceled too. "Only The Shadow knows."

The problem is that people continue to speculate, guess, throw darts, make stuff up, and then it GETS PUBLISHED.

It's like a soap opera. Not just with DJI but with any of the technology companies. There are always rumors, leaks, mystery photos of supposed new devices like the next iPhone etc...

Just wait it out and see what happens when DJI is ready to announce. What's the point of all the guessing games.

The facts are that DJI never officially announced one way or another that there would be a Phantom 5, and yet the rumors persist. So they couldn't have possibly cancelled a product that was never even announced.

The problem with customers waiting it out is that DJI has not made anything clear about the future of the Phantom products. As the Phantom community waits for their next dose of electronic heroin, they are generally ignored by DJI, and can only guess what their next drone will be. Will they jump ship and buy a Mavic? It seems thats what DJI wants them to do.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause and recommend our customers explore DJI’s Mavic series drones as an alternative solution to serve their needs,” reads an official statement from DJI."

If I wanted my customers to buy a different product, thats exactly how I would phrase my response.

OK people do want to buy and want to make the "correct decision". Once again that applies to any tech product, where planned obsolescence is part of the culture. Should I buy a Samsung S10 now or do I wait to see what that magical "S11 Pro Plus Gee Whiz" model will offer?

However, I make my decisions based on my needs and what is available now. Speculating doesn't help me make that decision one bit. If a Mavic Pro does everything you need it to do today, then buy it. If you want a Phantom 4 Pro because that suits your needs then find a good one in old inventory or buy a used one. It serves your needs today and you are up and flying instead of sitting on the couch thinking about what may come tomorrow.

The best drone is the one you can fly now!

Can't help but think this has something to do with DJI announcing the loss of millions of dollars to supplier fraud a few months back: article here
Perhaps a main supplier of phantom parts or the next model phantom were caught up in this debacle.

And that was what they made public! Imagine what the true story was. We may never know. How this fraud might affect future release is anyones guess, but it couldnt be good news.

too many people use the Phantom for commercial needs.. I still get emails every week from DJI advancing apps for the Phantom... don't think its going away at all... and if they do release a Phantom 5 it most likely will just be an updated Phantom... here is an example I just got today..
