Forest Fires and Drones

Drone operators already have a bad rap and as always irresponsible drone operators in BC, Canada, and Alberta, Canada, are flying their drones over the forest fires.
This is illegal and gives all of us a bad name.
Just like people that slow down on a highway to try and get a glimpse of gore, these people are trying to get photos and videos of peoples homes going up in flames and get shots of evacuated areas.
And maybe they are checking to see what they can then go in a steal in evacuated house, acreage and farm areas.

Fire fighting air tankers and helicopters have to stop their dump runs if a drone is within a certain distance radius.

If you see anyone doing it, get a photo of their vehicle plate or their location and send to the police.
Protect what is ours, the ability to fly drones.

Thanks for the heads up ODPwestkelownaBC. These firefighting pilots and ground crews require the ultimate focus when performing their work. As a BCer, I don’t have to describe the multiple terrains or the fire loads present to explain the life threatening situations these men and women face. Stay away…give them their safe space.
