Gatwick, was it real?

I'm a scientist, rather a stickler for what I accept as real. While it was in the news, the "Gatwick drones affair" looked, to me, like a mini moral panic.

After two months, can anyone send me a link to a definitive reference to the question, "Real or figment?"
