I noticed the restrictions of flying a UAV in California are much tougher than the state I live in. I see that State Parks are not allowed, but State Forest are okay. I would like to get video of some big Redwood Trees. I will be around San Jose, San Francisco Yosemite and LA. Does anyone have any tips on where I can fly around some Redwood trees? Any other good drone flying sights in California would also be appreciated.
Thanks

i live in the middle of the forest in California but unfortunately not near any redwoods. It’s interesting that there are actually two main types of redwood trees, the coastal redwoods, which are the tallest and the “Giant Sequoias“, which are bigger in circumference. The costal redwoods are as you would expect, near the coast. From San Jose you could go to the Big Sur area near Monterrey to see these. Many are in state parks but I’m sure you can find many that are outside. The “Giant Sequoias“ redwoods are more around the Yosemite, and parts south. East of the cities of Fresno and Visalia in the mountains. I pretty sure you can find some in that area that are not part of the state and federal park system.

Hi Ken have you ever made the drive from San Jose to Santa Cruz? Do you think I might find some trees there?

Yes, many times. I used to live in San Jose a for long time. I think you can find some but the more majestic ones are closer to Big Sur. I would go the back way by following Hwy 9 from Los Gatos to Santa Cruz And then if you don’t find what you are looking for you can just continue down Hwy 1 to Monterrey and beyond.

That’s really a shame. So many beautiful places to video in California.
Yes, a beautiful place to visit but not a great place to live, except for the weather.
