Got the Titan Atlas boosted antenna system today!!!!

I never had a range issue over open ocean. The reason why I bought the Atlas is the island I live on is covered in trees, wifi and ele wires and towers..... with stock I could never get over 300m without loosing signal. Today I got over 1k out with still full signal. So its proven to me that the Atlas boosted antenna system has done well over its job!
That's great! You may still have full signals when you have to RTH when using it in the ocean!

Like you, I purchased the Atlas because I was having interference issues at home. However, last night, I ended up staying the night in my RV in the Mojave Desert. Near perfect conditions with just a slight breeze which is rare because the wind can really howl out here. Set the Mavic out over the desert which is mostly flat with a downward slope in elevation going out. Took the Mavic up to 175ft and out almost four miles (6.5k) before the battery warning started annoying me. The screen said I still had 60% battery left but I decided not to push it. Must have been a slight headwind because the Mavic only had 10% when I landed it. What was crazy was with the Atlas system, I was still registering four-bars at four miles out. I'm not interested in doing any battery mods but with that much signal in reserve, I'm wondering what the Atlas can really do under optimal conditions with enough battery power. So far, the Atlas has proven itself to be worth every dime. Probably going to end up returning all the stuff I ordered for my long range project because it appears their is nothing to be gained from it except maybe a fifth bar.

Can either of you test just the antennas without the Atlas to see what kind of range you get, just incase the battery ran out or forgot to charge, thought it'll be good to know

I've only compared it in the city and I found I get about 50% more range with the Atlas. However, I have not tried a stock controller in the desert under the same conditions I had last night. I do happen to have an stock controller which I just purchased here last week. I think it would be a fair comparison.

50% more range compared to stock with the Atlas antenna without the booster?

Would love to read your report on the stock in the desert compared to the Atlas. Then another interesting comparison would be stock vs Atlas without the booster - if you are interested to do that :)

No doubt the Mojave Desert is an excellent place to fly. Probably why it has been used for years for virtually all aeronautical testing. Not sure I necessarily have the "right stuff." However, I do intend on continuing my own tests when the weather conditions (wind) are just right.

I also have 2 controllers setup as master & slave, when it arrives I'll do a test to compare both stock and Atlas amped / direct at the same time, I expect direct to be similar but amped to be over double using ce mode

You'll probably tripled the distance if compared to CE.

That depends on the amps, if they are variable gain fixed output with enough gain then yes it'll be a tremendous improvement but if its fixed gain then it will be slightly better than FCC, or if its got variable gain but not enough it will still be very good just not as good as what @JManges will get

Love your forum name very interesting. I have been in the fence with the Atlas, I dont do any long distance yet and have had plenty of signal for how far I go. I do plan on getting it one day but I might upgrade to a Crystalsky first. Cant wait to see how it works for you.

I went for the Atlas because I own a short-term rental property I need to monitor from time to time. Due to interference, the property was at the edge of my limits with the stock RC (approx 2,000 ft). I just needed a little more juice to get it around the property without losing signal. I have no problem now with the Atlas installed. Though it is a quality unit that gives you the confidence to reach out there. However, it does add weight and bulk to the RC whereas the stock controller is nimble and light. Given your situation, if the stock controller is doing everything you need, then the Atlas system or any other range extending system is probably something you won't need. For you, the CS does seem like money better spent.

Yes I have tried without the booster, just the Atlas antennas. I got around 10 -15 % more range over my stock antenna. So that being said the atlas even without the booster is a slight improvement for my system :)

Jmanges what kind of batt life are you getting on your Atlas? Mine came fully charged and ive done around 15 flights with it so far. The batt on the atlas is showing 57%!!!!

The only thing I would recommend to Titan is to build some sort of cover to protect the ON/OFF switch...... ive turned if off a few times by mistake.

Also a nice little carry case or travel box for it would be a nice added extra they could sell.

If you guys do get this system I would recommend some sort of lanyard because over a 20 min flight the system does get a bit heavy to hold,

Your thoughts Jmanges?????

That's very nice. Even if we forgot to charge the booster, it's still better than stock. Come to think of it, the tiny stock antenna is very impressive.

Ive got over 15 full flights on the booster, it was at 100% not its at 57% charge so my batt in the atlas is working very good

My thoughts? My thoughts are in line with yours. A red plastic spring loaded switch cover on the Atlas would look cool and would be very functional too. I've accidentally switched off the Atlas but it quickly lets me know because my signal strength instantly goes from five bars to zero.

Lanyard.... Funny, I was just thinking about that yesterday when I flew my Mavic for about 20 min. Yeah, a lanyard would make things a lot easier but I am not sure where to connect it. My system is a little funky because I have to Atlas Jerry-rigged to a Maxx Mod mount. The Maxx Mod mount is affixed to the RC with 3M 30lb dual sided tape. It's sturdy enough to hold the Atlas but I don't want to add the weight of the RC and Ipad Mini and have it all supported by the dual sided tape. Since I just acquired a second remote, I may consider sending in my Maxx Modded remote to Titan so they can work the mount to their specifications. Speaking of which, is the Atlas mount to the controller sturdy? Do you think it would support the entire weight on a lanyard?

I still do a bit of traveling and am going to the Philippines for a few weeks in Dec/Jan. I would really like to take the Atlas system but with everything, it is not that portable. I was considering just taking the spare remote and leave the Atlas at home. However, the Atlas system rocks and I really don't want to be without it. A good case might do the trick and I've looked at a few on Amazon. However, space is always at a premium when you travel so it might have to stay behind. Still, for everyday use, I'm at the point where I need a bigger case. Hopefully one that holds the Atlas too.

Back to your original question, I've charged my Atlas only once after it went down to about 50%. The battery life is amazing.

Going to try this lanyard. Cheap enough and doesn't obstruct the screen.

Hey there bud! Happy to hear you made a good call with the Atlas and it works well on your island.
Beware, you ll be able to fly over open water as far as your battery takes you (and signal will still be solid) and then the ocean will owe you a mavic!
