So I’ve got the AirMap app and I check it periodically to see where I can possibly fly and there are several places that I ruled out at least for now due to advisories like heliports. However, recently I’ve been on the app and the same locations that had the advisories are now supposedly perfectly fine to fly in. I know that they weren’t TFR’s, the heliport is still there but I can’t even get the orange circles to show up like they used to! Has something changed or is my app just having issues?? I have updated the app, thanks for your input!!!

What happened is that AirMap preemptively switched to the operating rules for model aircraft in the 2018 FAA Reauthorization Act, even though the FAA has not implemented them yet. Under that Act, recreational flight is governed by airspace, just like Part 107, and so the blanket 5-mile notification requirement has gone. That means that for airports or heliports in Class G airspace there is no restriction or requirement shown.

Thank you so much for your response! I knew there had been some changes but I didn’t know exactly what they meant for us! Do you know when the FAA will officially start implementing this?

They haven't said anything about timeframe. They have said to continue using the existing rules until 14 CFR is updated - that's why I'm surprised that AirMap has already switched. The 5-mile notification requirement, for example, is still in force as far as the FAA is concerned, and their instruction is to continue to follow the existing 14 CFR Part 101 subpart E rules:

Bummer that AirMap changed because at least before I had easy access to the phone numbers I should call! Thanks again!!!

I've been trying to use AirMap to get 107 authorization in Class C airspace but when I get to "verify phone number" I am not getting any text back from AirMap... so if I choose "skip" the phone number verification and submit I get rejected automatically. I'm hoping to hear back from them about this.... in the meantime, any suggestions? I'm using the following format for my phone number: +1xxxxxxxxxx (that is a +1, area code and phone number)

Good luck with all that, I haven’t done anything with AirMap except check for areas without advisories so I’m not any help I’m afraid! May try the phone number without the 1 just start with the area code... and I’m confused by the + sign?? Anyway good luck and let me know if you find out anything!
