Hey folks heading to capetown and doing the garden route in December and just wondering if anyone has any tips and hints to help me out to where to get some great shots and also anything I need to be extra aware off

How far up the Garden Route are you heading?

I'm sure you've familiarised yourself with the regulations. VLOS, daylight only, don't fly over people or property (including National Parks) and no flying within 10km of an airport or airfield.

We are staying in nysna so using there as a base to go to and from every day
Knysna is one place you can fly without having to worry about an airport. From Leisure Island you'll be able to get a nice shot of the Heads.

The roads around Oudtshoorn (Cango Caves) are also quite picturesque.

As far as I can tell there's literally no one to enforce the regulations outside of Cape Town and national parks.

Keep in mind SA is a dangerous place but as long as you're aware of your surroundings you should be ok. :)

We're living up in the Eastern Cape and have wales and dolphins frolicking outside daily this time of the year. They insanely difficult to track with the drone. :o

Unfortunately 300m away we've got a dead whale that's been rotting away for the past 6 weeks or so.

Some private reserves will probably give you permission to fly as long as you make it clear you're not going to hassle the animals.

I'm flying an Air. The wide FOV makes it hard to zero in on a boat, let alone a whale :D

Lol just shows the difference in country's the most we get washed up is a cod and I'm sure it's not good with the heat lol
Can u recommend any reserves as my wife love giraffes and would make her trip
Have been flying with the fov on the mp2 but might try the hq mode and see the difference trying to get practise in for different shootings
Do u use any nd filters for the sunlight etc

Giraffes are easy - they're all over the place. If you're willing to drive further up the garden route you'll find plenty at Shamwari Game Reserve or Addo National Park along with the rest of the Big 5.

I've just ordered a set of ND filters today. I'm a still photographer by trade and haven't needed them before now.

Thanks for the info ??? and I'm still experimenting with the different filters bought polarised as well as got a deal with a set of polar
Most of what I do is 2 mins in the air and go through the settings and see what looks best
