I'm new to the world of drone flying and recently purchased a Mavic Pro. I'm capturing some great video but would like to fly my drone off a cliff and capture some video.
So question is, my RTH is set to 50m, but if the cliff drop is 150m does the drone calculate the 50m from where it took off or (150+50m) or will it drop to 50m above sea level and smack into the side of the cliff?

RTH is based on launch point = 0 , flying below launch point , height will show negative numbers , drone will ascend to your set rth height above launch point before landing .

Thank You. I vaguely knew about this quirk but now I feel better/fully educated about this quirk and will bear it in mind since I frequently fly above water.

All heights are relative to the homepoint.

Sea level is completely irrelevant.
Your drone has no idea what sea level is.

Excellent video. Should be a “must watch” for all DJI flyers. Have you tested this with various generations of drones?

We were at my daughter's during the week for Christmas. I flew my drone a couple of times on Thursday in below freezing temperatures in BC Canada, from her snow covered back yard; ground level temperatures were in the low teens and probably a lot colder at 393', the height I was flying at. I took off from the landing mat I placed on a 3' wide round table, which had about a foot of soft snow on it but was firm enough to hold the drone. I was up there with my Mavic 4 Pro, for around twenty minutes each time and landed both times with RTH, the first time I was a little apprehensive landing on the mat on the table, however both landings were uncannily precise landings, on pretty much exact take off points, although I watched landing precision and was prepared to take over. The purpose of both flights was to detect any sub freezing temperature related anomolies, however the drone flew flawlessly.
