Hi,

I just walked in the door from my first flights. I went through what you are going through over the past several weeks and spent an awful lot of time on the forum so I'll offer my experience.

When you consider the amount of money you're spending on this buy it from DJI directly or a local authorized retailer. That way you've got only one person to yell at when things go wrong and you get completely lost.

If you're looking for something that holds its value consider buying food. Really, these things get used - often hard - and put away wet. If somebody is selling one used they 1) are upgrading and only want one drone (unlikely) or 2) never used it much and/or had a bad experience. My take is that the few 10s to 100s of Euros between a new drone and a bad experience drone isn't worth it. Sure, you could get lucky or you could get really unlucky.

Hold off on the goggles until you can fly it. Hold off using an app until you can fly it sticks only in ATTI mode. Fly it in ATTI mode until you are so bored you wish you'd bought food instead. These things are insanely easy to fly. Push a couple of buttons and - zoom - you're Buzz Lightyear. To see why this ease of use is an issue search for "crash" at the top of the page. Practice until you can fly it without thinking about it. The take-away I've gotten from the forum is that sensors will go wonky, EM interference will send your drone spinning away, the app will crash just when you need it not to and you have to be able to stabilize (no pun intended) the situation instantly and without thinking about it.

Buy whichever set of kit is cheapest. You do want extra batteries (at least). A couple weeks ago DJI was selling the Fly-More Combo for today's cost of the drone and a couple batteries. That's what I got and all-in-all for the price I don't think you cant beat it.

Good luck and have fun with your new Mavic. (C'mon, you know you're going to get it...)

Hello and Welcome from the States! I love how this forum is global!
Now to your questions:
1) I guess the first drone was a hard to control toy? If so then you are in for a much better experience.
2) As long as you don't break it, it will hold it's value about as good as a new car which is worth a few thousand less as soon as you drive it. If you try to sell it you will have competition with the refurbished MP's that have hit the market (and they will have a warranty).
3) You have to start somewhere. I would hold off on buying the goggles until you become proficient flying. You don't need the distraction and there are new "wearables" hitting the market that might be better when you are ready. You could use Litchi and get a 3-D effect using your phone and 3-d glasses.
4) No, it is easy to fly and very responsive to your commands. Spend some time reading the manual and familiarize yourself with the Go 4 app and the settings.
5) It is important while learning to be in a wide-open area with nothing to fly into.
6) Wherever you buy, I think the return policy is most important. Being able to easily swap out a defective unit instead of dealing with DJI's service is a plus.
7) You already mentioned extra batteries. I would recommend three total. The RC battery will last through three Mavic batteries but may get weak after that. You will also need a set of ND filters for video recording.
8) The fly more combo gives you everything you need to fly minus the goggles.
9) Your iPhone should work OK. Later you might want to use a tablet for the bigger display.
10) Noob questions are fine and record the stupid things so we can see them.
11) Aren't we all.
12) Prepare for the worse. It is easy to find the cost if she ever gets curious.

Have fun!
