I’m relatively new to drones, but have just purchased a Mavic Mini to take with me on my 9 day Alaskan adventure. It will be a challenge skirting the boundaries of the National parks, but I am sure there are plenty of places I will be allowed to launch without breaking the law!

I use UAV forecast, seems to give me All the info I need before taking off.

On drives I’ve taken from Anchorage down the Seward Highway, there was a bald eagle hunting from the beach...about every 100 yards. I would imagine they’d want to know how a Mini tastes, so keep it close and avoid water until you’re pretty comfortable with the flying spot.

You'll find that the Mini almost flies itself. This can lead to overconfidence. Try to be conservative at first, and expand your horizons gradually. The Mini, at only 249 grams, doesn't handle wind as well as the heavier drones do. On windy days it's best to fly the Mini so that you have a tail wind on the way back.

Read your manual (link below), and practice using “Find my Drone’. Chances are you'll crash and perhaps lose your drone. Don't wait 'til that happens to try to learn under stress in less than ideal conditions. We have over 100,000 members from around the world--including many in who will help you learn your new hobby.
