Thanks. I kept coming up with the Pro models. Apparently, they are not necessary.

The Pros aren't technically necessary but it does run much better on the newer Pro models. Also not all the normal models are compatible with the Apple Pencil (only the 2018), and that makes the work experience much more pleasant in LumaFusion. It does run a lot nicer on the 2017 or 2018 iPad Pro models than it does on a standard 9.7" iPad 2018, though it is still usable on the normal 9.7" iPad 2018. Normal 4K footage is OK but only the newer iPad Pros and latest iPhones support HW 4K 10bit H265, which is potentially a big deal if you're a Mavic 2 Pro shooter. The A10 procesor/GPU in the 2018 iPad 9.7" is 3 years old now and frankly not that good. I still get the odd stutter with my iPad Pro 11" - even the iPad pros aren't very powerful compared to a very modest traditional computer. The Pros also have much better screens, if you are picky about things like color accuracy. Another consideration is storage space - the traditional iPads max out at 128GB which does not give you much room for projects and RAW footage. You also get a powered USB-C port on the 2018 iPad pros which makes transferring drone footage far easier than dealing with the crappy lightning port and a rats nest of dongles.

One workaround for the storage space is LumaFusion has actually partnered with Western Digital and GNARBOX. For example if you have any of the Western Digital My Passport Wireless drives, you can browse/transfer/backup/scrub footage on the external drive in LumaFusion without putting the file onto the iPad. When you make a selection and drag the footage onto the ipad, only that selection is downloaded onto the iPad. This is an enormous space saver, if that is an issue ,and also provides a secondary backup method. These drives are very cheap, $199 USD for 2TB. They also have an SD card slot and USB 3.0 port for quick backups of drone footage in the field. It's the perfect companion if you use LumaFusion.

Pros are not necessary. 2018 6th gen ipad does a great job ff22 650$ for a little bump in screen space and processor performance A10 fusion x ....(screen to big) or 279$ for 9.7 in and processor that is maybe 6 months behind in development....:) i mean no brainer. Everything i have thrown at my 9.7 has been just as quick as my buddys 10.5 in ipad pro. We compared export times mine was 5 seconds slower lolol yea 6th gen ipad a no brainer! For sure....pro's laminated screen is beautiful but again for the money u can pick up a 6th gen ipad for, no thanks....i think u will be happy that it can dl 4k from go, scrub rate is awesome and export is fast what more do u need...i guess if u need more might as well go for the new pro's ;) :)

How is the screen too big when they don't even increase the size of the actual iPad 10.5" compared to the 9.7"?

Anyways, a 2018 6th gen iPad can not HW encode 10bit H265. That is the issue for Mavic 2 Pro DLog-M. The iPad Pro 2019 can.

There is a whole lot more to the Pros than a laminated screen that account for the price difference (120Hz display, much more power that makes an actual difference, more RAM, bigger storage options, powered USB-C, etc.), but each to their own. Just because you don't personally use them doesn't make them ridiculous for other people to pay for.

Because they just are .... why do you need to go to an extra inch and a half almost for that much more money it just doesn't make sense and you can do everything on a iPad 6 gen that you can do on an iPad Pro 10.5....and for 279$ like I said totally a no-brainer. And i do PERSONALLY use them. It just doesn't make sense financially you don't need more RAM because the iPad 6 gen does everything the iPad Pro can do and bigger storage you can just go buy bigger storage option and still make out way cheaper.... or buy more cloud storage and still make out way cheaper! and who cares about USBC when you can export the 4K footage right to wherever you want and download it right to the iPad also if u please, it's not like it's slow at doing that! I understand you feel the need to argue almost every single point but let's face it the 6th gen iPad is a better buy right now it really is.... and no crap the 2019 iPad can encode 10 bit but who is going to spend that much money on one ... you would need a decent storage option so that is just way too expensive ....you might as well buy a Mac laptop. Guess what though the 6th gen iPad can encode h265 no problem.... and you let me know which TVs and how many people are going to be viewing 10-bit h265 in the near future let alone YouTube capability of playing it..:mad:

It doesn't make sense to you. Your personal usage is not the final word, I think that is what you are not understanding. You are also spreading misinformation which is not helpful to this thread in general. Essentially telling everyone else they're an idiot if they buy anything more than a 6th gen iPad does not come across very well. You are telling people it can do everything the Pros can which is categorically false.

You said exactly this: "It just doesn't make sense financially you don't need more RAM because the iPad 6 gen does everything the iPad Pro can do and bigger storage you can just go buy bigger storage option and still make out way cheaper.... or buy more cloud storage and still make out way cheaper!"

If it can do everything the Pro can, explain to me how I can get a 6th Gen iPad to do the following and I will sell my Pro tomorrow:

- Encode 10bit H265 Video - this is the big one for Mavic 2 Pro owners
- Refresh it's screen at 120Hz
- Have a smart connector
- Have near perfect P3 and sRGB color reproduction with true tone (important for serious editors)
- Have more than 128GB local storage (cloud storage is useless without WiFi and it's expensive and slow). My 256GB model is almost full. You cannot buy more than 128GB storage on the 6th Gen iPad, and iOS eats up a lot of that. Cloud storage payments are a monthly obligation.
- Accept my USB-C accessories without adapter
- Charge at 30W
- Unlock with Face ID
- Have more than 2GB of RAM (yes, it can use more than 2GB easily depending on the app and process)

Let me guess, you don't personally care about any of those things, so nobody else should either

Nobody is suggesting that everyone buy the Pro "just because", but saying that nobody needs the Pro because your own personal usage does not warrant it comes across very short sighted, especially when it has a very specific limitation with regards to editing Mavic 2 Pro footage.

Ok im done with u. Now you are just putting words in my mouth seriously you can do as you please and so can other people. I just gave my two cents.....you do you buddy  I mean if guys have lots of money and they want to buy the new iPad Pro sure by all means I just told them about a viable cheaper version but you know you had to get all johnny chooch on me. And u keep talking about the mav 2 pro like every person has one. Canada is this your first drone? Because you are defending this drone like no tomorrow I told you that you cannot do that especially if you did not have a mavic 2 Zoom to compare them to like I do...get off the bandwagon.....seriously dji gimped it. nobody is going to buy an iPad Pro to edit h265 10 bit on an iPad Pro you would be better off buying a Mac so yeah my argument still stands if you want to do normal video editing that a regular PC or laptop can do grab the 6th gen iPad people...canada for sure I will agree that the iPad Pro is definitely nicer I never said it wasn't but for the price who is going to use that to fly with their drone everyday and then go edit h265 10 bit? Not the average Joe you would have to have some money let's be realistic if you're spending that kind of money. So for a cheaper but nice option you can get the 6th gen fly with the screen and still edit perfectly fine how can you beat that for 279$ I have had no problem editing on it....hey do me a favor ....stick to dslr's. THANX
