Where did you launch from the Pier?
The locals can get quite uptight around there, and yes you do need to look out for: Banner Tows, Helicopters and Microlights that operate from KHHR that all fly low along the coastline.

I was there 3 weeks but didn’t take my drone. Wish I could have.

I read that the city requires a permit attached to the drone. Also my app said a large portion of the beach area is within 5 miles of the LAX airport.
