I've flown radio controlled models from the age of 20 (1960), my last model was a 1/4 scale Stearman with a 40cc four stroke engine in 2007. I packed in around 2008 when it became impractical to fly in my new location. I then took up photography. I am considering buying a drone & the Mavic Air is at the top of my wish list. However before I take the plunge I thought I look for some more info. I don't have a smart phone, but have a 10inch tablet with GPS & WiFi. My first question is, can I fly the air without a smart phone or tablet, secondly can I use my android tablet with the Air? Hope someone can steer me in the right direction.

Welcome to Mavic Pilots from Dayton Ohio USA! What tablet do you own? Most android tablets will work that have a decent processor and at least 2GB of Ram. You will however have to purchase an adapter for your tablet to fit in the remote. I use THIS ONE and have had pretty good luck with it (Fits both the Mavic Air and Mavic Pro). As far as the Mavic Air goes, I absolutely love mine, it's an awesome little bird.

Hi Aerial Pixel & everyone who responded to my query, thank you.
From your reply, can I assume that the Mavic Air cannot be flown without either a smart phone or a tablet? The tablet I have is a Lenovo TAB 2 A10-70 with 2GB Ram. I specifically bought it to use with Navionics marine charts to use on our coming holiday to Holland.
I looked at the adapter you suggested for the Air to use a tablet & would imagine the tablet prevents the pilot seeing the controls on the Air. This wasn't a problem when I flew radio control models as I rarely looked at the transmitter, only to check the battery state.
I also watched a video on YouTube & learned you can alter the mode on the Air to suit your style, I used to fly radio models mode 1. throttle & aileron on the right hand stick, rudder & elevator on the left hand stick.
Thanks again for the response & info'.
