Hi everyone,

A friend asked me to follow her during one of her horse rides on Erdeven beach in Brittany.

Shot with my DJI Mavic 3 Pro - aerial footage from above and ground shots handheld with the same drone.

The beach offers good open space for horse riding along the Atlantic coast.

Enjoy,

Matt

Nicely done. Great example of how little camera movement is necessary to tell the story (in the ground shots especially). Let the subject to do the talking. Excellent use of the 3 lenses of M3P. The shot with the tele lens through the swaying grass was especially beautiful! You are the master of your craft! I enjoyed the video very much! Thanks for sharing. Was it shot at 50 or 60fps and slowed down to half speed in post? The composition of the shots, the slow mo, the color grading, the sound track, just perfect!!

Very professional. You capture a beautiful story cinematically. Love the half speed. It’s such a seductive visual effect!

Happy that you like it, knowing that we didn't really pre-plan anything apart from meeting up and taking some shots ...

Basically, I spent a little more than an hour following her moves ...

Hi there,

Thank you so much for the kind words and detailed feedback - really appreciate it!

Yes, shots were at 60 fps and slowed down in post.

The usage of the 3 lenses is a bliss with this drone - The only downside is the color grading afterwards, since applying the same color grade to shots coming from the 3 lenses can be inconsistent I found. In order to counter this issue, I download all the selected shots and apply the color grading in Pixelmator Pro, fine tune them on one of the shots, then copy the settings of the shots that I like and paste them to all the others... It takes me much less time than trying to balance the results in all the shots in Final Cut Pro since they are already ready when I import them and have a consistent look between them.

Also, even though it's possible to make handheld shots with your two hands - one for the remote and one under the drone - I recently switched to a pretty decent priced Katana support that does the job pretty well and you can toggle through all the remote control buttons while maintaining stability.

As for the different color rendering by the 3 cameras I completely agree. I am primarily a photographer and I have created Custom Presets for all 3 cameras in Lr. As for the color and WB I used Colorchecker Passport from x-rite. I shot ( a DNG still) of the color chart under direct sunlight with all 3 cameras and created 3 Color Profiles. Then imported those shots into Lr. By clicking on the second grey square on the chart I get accurate WB and consistent colors. All this I have saved as Custom Preset for each camera. I use this as a good starting point when editing photos shot under sunlight condition. Seeing the difference in °K and Tint in Lr gives me a good starting point in DaVinci Resolve when grading videos from all 3 cameras. The 1x and 7x are actually pretty close with the 7x being most off. For consistency I shoot in Dlog M with all 3 cameras as the D-log on the main camera complicates color matching even more.
This method is of course not perfect but it helps a fair bit. Just my 2 cent worth, anyway..
Again, congrats on excellent work. She, the rider must have been stoked with the video. At least I hope she was😀

Great approach with the ColorChecker Passport!

Your workflow sounds much more systematic than mine

And yes, she was absolutely thrilled with the final result. Always rewarding when the subject loves what you've captured.

Thanks again for the detailed insight - very helpful!
