So after around 15 flights now i scouted around on google maps and found a place that had what seemed to be a clear run of very waterlogged marsh type land..
looking to be a good place to increase confidence in drone technology and with what i could see was only two very large commercial plots and a few scattered outbuildings, but a clear path through them all, i decided to go and take a flight.
the only place i could find with some clear area for a takeoff was in a very tree lined area.
Making sure i had set the RTH properly and calibrated everything i set an altitude of 55 meters.
off i went,
at around 1000 meters out i headed right to keep away from the commercial plots and suddenly out of what seemed nowhere appeared an Electricity pylon. i hit the altitude even though i looked to be clear of the pylon, and headed over and in between two pylons at 75 meters.
stopping and taking a look around i noticed a long line of these running straight across the flight path.
So a very rookie mistake, thinking i had thought pretty well about where i could fly safely and take the drone out further, lesson learned.
oh and for information purposes an electricity pylon is up to or between 30 to 50m high something to think about when u are setting RTH in open areas. My RTH was set at 50m which i thought (very wrongly) would be fine over open ground.
flight logs show i did 4500m round flight in 12 mins. I came back as i was running out of open area. video feed was excellent the whole flight.
i am not over-keen on learning lessons the hard way, this one will be a major consideration in the future.
