It really depends on the look you're going for and how much detail you need to capture. Maybe try taking photos at different altitudes and see what looks best to your eye.

Photography is an art. There's no wrong way to do it.

50 metres I find perfect and conforms to the law in UK. With the Zoom on the Mavic I find the close shots are fine also

There are some things that I video that I never get more than 20 feet off the ground. I think most people believe that if you are using a drone to get video with you have to be flying at 400 agl, but the reality is that you fly at the height that gives you the look you want, or fits the need for your finished product.

Its all about framing your subject. Be it a landscape, a building, a bird , etc.

To get a good start try turning on the grid within the camera settings. Then position your subject on one of the grid lines that is horizontal making sure to keep other objects located on the vertical lines. This is known as the "rule of thirds" and is used to create visual interest in the subject.

To achieve this one will need to fly to different elevations so this means there is no hard and fast rule about elevation.

I am sure i saw this on a post.I copied it anyway Fly at 120Metres to cover 150Mt x 100Mt ground area.
If i am wrong we shall soon find out.

Thai is an art, agree but that you cant do wrong i respectfuly disagree.
It depends on whether you are looking at it as objective art, or subjective art. Most of what the drone world is doing is subjective art IMHO and it is all in what the artist likes, it doesn't have to conform to any rules and for that reason I agree with msinger that you can't go wrong.

I think it depends on your subject matter. I took the photo below at 200ft and I kinda thought it was too high.
I wanted to get certain things in the frame and when I dropped down it wasn’t possible.

On the other hand, the old saw, "Altitude above you, like runway behind you, ain't much use." Carnegie Peak is a small volcano perched on the side of an older mountain. Half of the cone collapsed down the side of the mountain during the cone-building phase of the eruption and was partially replaced before fire-fountaining ended. This is what I got from 500 m above my launch point down the mountain. Another couple of hundred meters altitude (I had the battery power but not DJI's permission) would have made a much better picture.
