How to register a replacement drone

What happens if your drone is replaced with a new model # drone under warranty or in my case I purchased a Mavic Air 2 for two weeks and decided to return it and upgrade to 2S model. Do I have to deregister my 2 and register my 2S or is there a way to transfer the existing registration and FAA aircraft #?

If this is recreational only, the serial number doesn’t matter per the FAA.
You are allowed more than one drone per FAA registration number.

I suggest cancelling the registration of the returned Mavic Air 2 and then registering the 2s.

If it is still registered to you and sold to someone else, there is a possibility that if they commit an FAA violation away from or inside a FRIA, it could be attributed to you, as the registered owner. That could be a long stretch, but cancelling it to remove the possibility of a serious fine ($$$) or even jail time, is probably not be a bad idea.
