I bought the Ruko R111 FAA Compliant Remote ID Module for Drone for $39.99 with a $5.00 discount coupon, now $34.99 and I included the 2-year Assurion Protection Coverage for $3.99 and it comes with Free shipping from Amazon… Total Price $41.43… (Sales Tax…)

I posted about this…

I originally posted a question asking if anyone had any experience with this Unit on this and other Drone Web Sites and I did not get any replies…

When I found this sale, I ordered it and I also posted that information and then I ordered it Tuesday evening, 23 July, and it arrived this afternoon, 27 July. I did not pay for any special handling, just chose the Free Shipping…

This unit was sold at the RuKo Store on Amazon and I chose to order it this way because the Roku Web Site and eBay did not offer any "Insurance Policy"… Only Amazon offered the Assurion Protection package.

Bottom Line… I am impressed with it… Here is what arrived…

What's in the box… The Booklet and the plastic case…

Opening the package up further, you will find the Ruko RID Module, USB-C Changing Cable, two sets of Velcro (two loop, two hook…), eight Wire-Ties, a removable mount, and the User Manual…

2 ruko.jpg

A photo of the Ruko Unit as compared to various coins…

And a photo it the Ruko Unit placed on my Mini 2 for effect… I have not yet decided on its permanent location, I will play with placement to ensure it does not interfere with GPS or Control Signals.

Setting up the unit and binding it is so simple and easy…

As a simple test, I placed The Unit in my back yard in the Gazebo and walked down the block about 500-feet. I turned on the Ruko App on my Android Moto G Smart Phone and in about 30-seconds, the app picked up the signal from the RID Module. This was not line of sight, the module was in the back yard and I was down the street and there were several two-story homes between me and the unit… I am impressed and disheartened…

Impressed because it is rated for 5-hours of use, so if my drone goes down and the battery in the drone dies or the drone is disabled, the RID Module will still show me the location of the drone…
Disheartened because Karen and Kevin will also have that same location available to them…

I also placed the smart phone down and then took the Module for a walk and the wife saw the Dot moving away and back but it did not show a "blue line" for the track as I have seen in other apps. Perhaps I need to play some more…

One point is the RID Registration Number on the RID Module is a "Printed Paper Label" on its side… That is not very secure nor long lasting. I imagine it will smudge or wear off quickly… I photographed it…

Bottom line, I am glad I bought this and if I need two or more, I would order them now from the Amazon Ruko Store. 5-Stars!

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback!

This looks like a great alternative to the Holy Stone RID module as it has a similar size and shape. And the inexpensive price (compared to other approved RID modules) is the cherry on the top.

Here are some places where the Ruko R111 module can be purchased:
It looks like Holy Stone has taken notice as they are currently offering their RID module for $41.99 ($2 more) with free same day shipping here on Amazon.

Thanks! Mine will arrive tomorrow.

Thanks for the Review! I looked everywhere for one and found nothing...until now.

For additional reviews, check out Ruko's listing here on Amazon. While this review is indeed thorough and helpful, I think it's a great idea to check out feedback from multiple confirmed buyers when deciding to buy products.

Wow, these are the prices we all hoped for when RID first required. Better late than never, I guess. Still happy with my Holy Stone.

I've decommissioned all my older drones but this looks like a good RID module for my original Mavic Pro. Thanks for the share and review.

Indeed. Now it's a race to the bottom as additional manufacturers release less expensive modules.

I expect so… As for me, I do not look back, I made my choice. If I were to worry that Holy Stone or a competitor might come out with a lower price, I might never make a choice. By not looking back, I avoid the, "Gee, if I only waited…"

And down the price goes. The Roku R111 is now down to $33 here on Amazon.

Don't really need one since I already have the HS RID but honestly, if the price comes down to $25, I'll get a Ruko. Let's see how low those prices can go! :)

But now, it is a dollar shy of the $35 Free Delivery with Prime... and the Shipping and handling is $6.99 to my Zip Code...

I ordered 2 of them a month ago and they sat in the amazon "waiting to be shipped' purgatory. I just canceled them and got my money back. They kept pushing the ship date out and I didnt want to risk losing my money.

I am sorry about your experience. As I wrote in the original post, "I ordered mine Tuesday evening, 23 July, and it arrived on Saturday, 27 July… "

And one more point that I did not bring up previously, but is germane now… I bought a total of three items at that time and the other two items were billed almost immediately… My bank notifies me by email of all transactions… I was concerned that I was not billed also for the Ruko RID Module. And this went on for several days, but I chocked it up the fact that the Ruko was coming from the Ruko's Amazon Store…

That Saturday, I was checking my email to see if I was billed yet and sure enough my bank showed that my credit card was billed that morning… Then suddenly, my doorbell rang and it was UPS delivering my Ruko…

So, in this case, which I cannot explain, Ruko sent out my Ruko in overnight delivery without even having received payment yet… And remember, I chose Free delivery…

I would suggest that if you still need a RID Module, the Ruko is listing for about $40 on Amazon and the Holy Stone is listing for $70, and I would reorder the Ruko.

As I wrote, mine worked great and continues to do so…

^Both the Ruko and the HS modules are roughly the same price since HS has a 50% coupon if you want to clip it for a discount. They also both ship from Amazon and the HS store and Ruko stores which are *virtual* stores which means they are not real stores and the manufacturer is not directly involved in the transaction with the customers; those "stores" are just different bins in the Amazon warehouses. But it's clever internet website design and great marketing because people believe they are shopping directly at the manufacturer but it's Amazon completely handling the entire interaction. It is likely the two modules are mostly identical with the same minor differences that often discern most Chinese products that have learned to clone themselves to sell to Americans and other westerners thru ODMs.
