I thought I had purchased a new Mav 3 Pro

I wanted to get some opinions from my fellow Mav pilots. I purchased a new Mav 3 Pro from Amazon two weeks ago. Unboxed, charged her up and took her out flying. A few days later, I went to register the drone with the FAA and flipped over the box to retrieve the SN. I noticed the manufacturer on the box said 2023/9. Hmmmm. It was also manufactured in Malaysia.

I called Amazon and they said I can return it. I feel like I bought a new 2024 car but later find out its last years model. I was thinking.. Does this drone have all the latest and greatest in terms of technology? Certainly there must have been a few things that were refined and improved. Then I was thinking if there were no components upgraded or improved, maybe its just a matter of firmware updates? Kind of like Tesla's?

If it does not matter, I'll keep it. even though the battery may have been affected. My last concern is that it was made in Malaysia. I think my Mav Classic was made in China. I am sure that with the potential tariffs kicking in sometime next year, China will be having a lot of their goods manufactured elsewhere. And I am no expert on this.

BTW, Amazon has tons of these drones in their warehouses. Either they are not selling as well as they should be or Amzn bought way to many. The guy I spoke with on the phone could not guarantee that I would get a replacement drone that did not have the same manufacture date on it.

Thanks for any guidance you could give me.

My Mavic Pro 2 was that way when delivered as well. But my brother’s was only a month old and he purchased it directly from DJI back then. Seems like we were in the special line with people also waiting ahead of us…

thanks for the mesage.

There have been no changes to the Mavic 3 pro since it was released in mid-2023.
Yours should be as good as any other regardless of the date it came out of the factory.

I wouldn't worry about where you drone was made unless it came from an unknown location. Your drone is newer than mine which is 4-2023 and it was made in China. Products have to be properly labeled by law so we have to trust there is no deception going on here.

At some point, the Mavic 3 Pro production in the original location (likely China) has to stop and other drones are made in the factory instead (there is only so much room) but it doesn't mean production of the older drones doesn't continue....just somewhere else. Places like Malaysia and Vietnam come top of mind. For now the Mavic 3 Pro model needs warranty replacements, Care replacement, there are likely still parts that can be assembled....so it is not uncommon to move the production somewhere else to keep it going and it is possible that has occurred here.

Don't know for sure because I don't work there and we have a habit of trying to correlate inventory with date of purchase and that doesn't always work. As mentioned and I agree, there hasn't really been anything different done to the Mavic 3 Pro to be overly concerned about. However, moving the production line from one country to another is not always a perfect transition and unfortunately, it often never is. Plenty of stuff made in Japan and Korea and Taiwan have suffered when eventually made out of China, Vietnam, and Malaysia and that is strictly my opinion and not a fact. DJI seems to be different but it's up to you to decide. There are benefits to having a new drone (or even a refurb) but the Mavic 3 Pro has been pretty even from what we can tell.

You mentioned you purchased "over a year old" inventory (called old stock) from Amazon so it would be helpful to know that buying at amazon.com is not the same thing as buying from amazon. Anyway, it's not like buying a previous year model car, it can be, but we don't believe there are any significant differences. I don't believe you have "last year's model." It's new (as in never used) but after a month, your drone will be used just like mine. Buying this late, I would choose the refurb. :)
