Going out next week for my first flight. Flay aways concern me.
It's got the latest firmware was no need to update. Batteries need checking. Tx has too.
Read the manual and re read.
Now when I get to my flying site
Recalibrate the compass with no phone or I watch on.
Get gps lock Take off hover to let it set the home point.
I flown a hex many times but not for a year now. I was going to set a radius off 100m away and use on tripod mode.
Anything else except try and enjoy.

That sounds like a great plan. Adjust your RTH (Return to Home) altitude to the proper height so that if the Mavic has to use that feature you will not clip anything on the return path.

Get used to the orientation . Front and back from a visual perspective. Check the Radar while rotating so you know which way the Mavic Pro is facing . Nothing worse than thinking you are flying back towards yourself only to find that you were flying away and have to fight your way back twice as far on low battery.

If you want to preserve and enhance battery life and performance. Fly to 50 percent and then charge back up for the first 10 flights. This is hard to do and requires self control as one will want to fly till low battery warning is exhibited. :)

Dont fly indoors . Its tempting and alluring , but risk versus reward is skewed.

If while you're flying and get confused on direction, simply let go of the sticks and the drone will stop allowing you time to figure things out.

If you've flown hex's a few times you will like be in sport mode by your forth or fifth battery. This thing is incredibly easy to fly, even in windy conditions.

Make sure it records a correct home point. You will see a little H on your screen near where you took off.

I was incredibly nervous my first couple flights mostly due to the cost. The nervousness slowly diminished as my skills and trust in the craft increased.

My hex was a dji 550 and was incredibly stable until it shot off by itself and hit the deck. Still not sure why now. Battery only lasted 10 mins on a good day. So looking forward to longer flight times.

I've learned a great deal from you tube videos...I really like the instructional ones done by Dylan Young and Ed Ricker Vlogs...oh..one of my FAVORITES... TV Specialist inc...they have an hour long Mavic instructional (and others) video that's terrific...

I think it's good to make a habit of checking your sensors before every flight. Open the menu in Go app, top tab -> advanced -> sensors -> check all of the sensors & compass. I've seen the compass jump around a lot depending what material the Mavic is sitting on so if you see yellow/red, just move the Mavic to another spot a few meters away and check it.
