I have our yearly conference in a few months, and would like to do overhead indoor photography, and some videos of the presenters in the large lecture halls. Are you able to pre-program a specific flight pattern without usng GPS? I want to load the program, have it fly the pattern, and then return. I plan on using a Mavic Platinum.

No.

In addition to the danger involved in flying indoors over a large crowd of people, it's going to be very loud and distracting. Maybe something like an Osmo hooked to an extension rod would be a better choice.

Yeah, this is kind of a recipe for injury, the Mavic is notoriously unstable indoors, be careful.

If you are in Switzerland you can’t fly above a crowd of more than 24 people.

Well I wouldnt say that the Mavic is notoriously unstable indoors, its probably the most stable drone there is.
But you are right.

Indoors + drone is not good a at all and should be avoided.
So many things can go wrong, dont do it mate

Probably one of the worst ideas I can imagine. There have been reported lawsuits of people being hit by drones during events when the controller was unable to stabilize an errant flight path.
Add to that the noise, the distraction, the loss of GPS, the videotaping of people who have not consented to public release, it adds up to a made for TV disaster.

Just my two cents. I may be wrong.

^^Exactly what everyone else said + No, you cannot set up a preprogrammed flight w/o GPS - and most certainly not indoors.

All the bad things happen when you have an audience.

I have flown several drones indoors and I can say for sure that the MP was the squireliest. Unless you can guarantee you won't slip between GPS and ATTI, it is very easy to lose control, especially if the lighting is not optimal for the optical sensors.

If you are planning to include power point presentations, forget the mavic. The low light conditions are awfull, and even good camcorders do not provide suffient results in low light.
The best thing you can do is installing a professional equipment, i.e. some light spots and remote controlled fixed camcorders on tripods or attached to some balcony..
