Looks like every recreational operator in EU requires a 1 mil euro liability coverage. Anyone from the USA got such coverage in this country? Looks like the US insurances generally only cover operations in the US and the ones in the EU or Canada or UK dont cover US operators. I would think on this forum there should be plenty of info on this important aspect, but it seems not? Thanks for any pointers, suggestions.

I am about to depart for a photo-drone trip to Poland. I called my homeowner's insurance, on which I also pay premiums for a personal umbrella coverage up to 1 million. They said I was covered. (injuries, damage to property). I am traveling with my Mini 4 Pro.

Yeah Homeowner's Insurance covers personal property, which normally excludes motor vehicles and aircraft used to transport people or things.

So drones would be covered as personal property.

I dont care about the drone itself, its the liability. And I wonder, based on the stinginess and exclusion of US insurers, if they really cover liability overseas. If the rubber hits the road and one needs to exercise the liability clause, are there tiny small prints nobody reads.

I agree with you. Seriously doubt any US policy will cover your liability internationally, and even if it says it does, if the local government doesn't recognize it, like Mexico, you still get thrown jail!

Don’t you guys have liability cover by joining a drone club? I do in the UK.

Regarding loss and theft of my drone, cannot find a home contents insurer who will cover it, so have a one-off month’s cover with Coverdrone while on vacation.

May want to call your insurer and ask.

No matter what your insurer tells you, it still won't help you if the government of the country in which you incur a liability will not recognize any foreign insurance. If you get into a car crash in Mexico, unless you have Mexican insurance, you still get thrown into jail, even if Allstate said your insurance covers you in Mexico.

As it happens I submitted for permits to fly in Portugal, which involves providing your drone serial number, EU pilot number and insurance policy.

I listed my homeowner’s insurance policy number.

Got about 10 approvals for different locations. Of course they’re not reading my policy terms.

Ultimately if my drone hurt someone or caused property damage, I’d be responsible. But then I’d talk to my insurance for reimbursement at least.
